Borno State faces significant challenges with forced displacement and disrupted services. Adolescent girls are especially vulnerable to exploitation, early marriage, and abuse. This initiative combines education, outreach, and care to address root causes and provide lasting protection.
Centre for Community Health and Development (CHAD International) , in partnership with the Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, today announced the launch of a six-month initiative to empower 60 adolescent girls in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC), Mafa, and Jere Local Government Areas.

Empowering these young women with knowledge and support will ripple across families and communities,” said Dr Lucy Usen, Executive Director of CHAD International.
Build girls’ confidence and equip them with practical skills to recognize and address GBV
Offer emotional support and safe spaces through regular counselling
Mobilize families and community leaders to foster protective environments
Objectives
GBV Education: Interactive workshops on identifying, preventing, and responding to gender-based violence
Community Sensitization: Town-hall meetings, radio spots, and village outreach to change attitudes and norms
Psychosocial Support: One-on-one and group counselling sessions to address trauma and build resilience
IEC Materials: Flyers, posters, and booklets detailing girls’ rights, referral pathways, and support services
Dignity Kits: Hygiene and self-care items to safeguard health, privacy, and self-esteem
